Our Comenius project, funded by the British Council, is a partnership between schools in Bulgaria, Slovakia and Turkey. Over the past two years, staff, along with some pupils (not pupils from Victoria Primary due to their age) have visited partner schools in Bulgaria and Slovakia.
Project partners recognise that Europe is a growing continent, as such; the project has promoted European and ultimately global citizenship through encouraging children to recognise their role and responsibility in their home nation and its impact on the wider continent.
The project initially aimed to encourage children to understand their place and role in Europe through examining their own country’s history, language, culture, traditions and environment. As information regarding their own country has been produced and shared with project partners, children have learned about each other’s country, made comparisons, recognised similarities and differences and developed a greater awareness and understanding of the diverse societies that make up Europe.
Teachers and students from the three schools are due to visit us in May 2009 when the project will culminate with a week of activities in our ‘European Week’.
May 2008 - Visit to Antonovo, Bulgaria.
